Georgia Home

I went home this past weekend for a much needed escape from the cold, snowy streets of Boston (it has actually been 5 months!).  I of course had my new camera and did a little photog practicing while at home.

Over the past year my mom has really changed the look and feel of our home - and it has been for the best.  My dad passed away a year and a half ago and soon after my mom went to St. Simons to get away and begin to heal.  When she came back in June, she walked in the door and immediately felt a heaviness.  The decorating was somewhat rich/dark tones, but at that moment it had never seemed darker or heavier.  She  decided she need to lighten everything up in the house and it was the right decision in more ways than one.

She was able to change the look and feel of the house, while still maintaining the "home factor" we all wanted.  She began making decisions on her own and for herself which was hard but necessary.  I want to think it was a good start for her there...."in the comfort of her own home."
Below are some of my favorite things in the house that make me want to come in and sit down and stay a while (or a weekend).
{above is a beautiful antique desk that has been passed down through the family}

{the new style is comfy, country, cottage - the farmhouse sink fits perfectly}

{she always makes sure to have fresh flowers - one of my favorite things}

{my Mom's cousin made this table out of old bard wood}
{the table fits the new style perfectly - definitely not nervous about sitting at "dining" table anymore}

{above is a large piece she found at an antique store}

{she has pieces of my dad throughout - a sailboat which rests on her fireplace mantel in her bedroom}

{I love this chandelier which hangs above the bathtub - perfect lighting for a relaxing bath}

{above is "my room" or the room for any female guest - with fresh flowers of course!}
{Shadow was NOT happy when I began packing my suitcase on Sunday night}

{I think he wanted to be packed as well - maybe next time!}

{Carson (12yrs old)  is now taller than me! - not sure how I feel about that}

I'm sure all of you have different reason why you love your home so much.  I just happen to be obsessed with photographing anything and everything - so naturally my home in Dawsonville has a post!  A weekend at home was just what I needed to take on another week of New England weather (snowed again today).  Another great perk was all of the winter items were on clearance in the South! Since I will be using my "winter gear" until April-May, I stock-piled on clearance scarves and sweaters.

Looking forward to returning in the Spring - although I will still be pasty white while all of the southerners will have had a few chances to work on their tans....not fair!
